This year Homo Novus festival will start on August 30 and go until September 12. Two weeks that guarantee no free evenings, but plenty of new emotions, happy encounters, surprises, questions, talks and time spent in the company of some of the most wonderful artists from close and far!Homo Novus 2009 will open with our festival′s long time favourite, the director Kristian Smeds′ performance God is Beauty - a passionate and poetic play about the eccentric Finnish painter Vilho Lampi. Kristian Smeds himself will be on stage with his theatre hobby group Houkka brothers in the cheery soulful living room musical Children, birds and flowers, while another Finn, the original new circus artist Jani Nuutinen, invites to a minimalistic contemporary shadow and illusion theatre. From Hungary comes the tense and shockingly honest drama Frankenstein project by the successfull film and theatre director Kornel Mundruczo, which masterfully blurs the boarders of theatre, cinema and reality.
We bring you also two little gems from the dance realm - the provocative French choreographer Jerome Bel and classical Thai dancer Pichet Klunchun engage in an impossible and brilliantly funny dialogue about themselves in Pichet Klunchun and myself, while Estonian Mart Kangro makes a serious effort to start up a relaxed conversation with audience in his dance piece can′t get no/ satisfaction.
Along with these celebrated international artists we are happy to present the youngest generation of Latvian artists - we continue the festival project Prove II where we invite young promising Latvian theatre directors to create new pieces and this year you will see the work by last year′s graduates Valters Sīlis and Inese Mičule. We will also present the school project by Mārtiņš Eihe with the theatre students from Liepāja.
We hope to see you in the performances, meetings with artists, the long festival nights at Meta cafe!
